In my previous posts, I have talked about how to score Disney Gift Cards up to 5% off when bought at Target. The biggest downside to working this deal is that you are left with multiple gift cards that are valued at $50 each (or possibly $100). This can be a little bit of a headache when reading these cards off to a Disney phone representative to pay for your vacation. I once sat on the phone and read off over 50 gift cards (booking for a family reunion). The Disney rep was very kind and we had a good laugh about it but it was a good chunk of my afternoon that I’ll never get back. Another downside to multiple gift cards is having to bring them with you to pay for meals, souvenirs, and other activities. Once again I have spent a lot of time at my resort front desk paying down the vacation balance I had racked up with my MagicBand ….. $50 chunks at a time.
Fear not, there is good news! Disney now offers a way to combine all of your gift card balances onto one card. I just recently combined five of my gift cards into one and I thought I would walk ya’ll through on how to do it for yourselves.
First head over to www.disneygiftcard.com. If this is your first time then you will need to register. Just know that this is a separate log in from you Disney World website login.
Once you’re all set up, you will need to enter in all of your Disney gift cards into their system (up to 5 at a time). Next go up to the top menu and select the “Manage Cards” drop down menu, then select the “My Cards” option. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and start entering your all of your card info.
The site asks for you to name each card that you enter so that you can keep track of your cards easier. Next, you will need to scratch off the silver stuff on the back of your card in order to get the full Account Number and the Security Code. Also, know that you actually need to enter the number next to “Account:” on the back of the card. Not the long string of digits underneath the bar code.
It’s at this point where you can designate which card will be your “primary card”. In other words, which card you want all the other values to be transferred to. If you are like me you’ll need to write on the card with a Sharpie to help you remember which one you chose.
Go to one of your “secondary” cards and click on the “Transfer Balance” button. A new screen will pop up double checking that you want to transfer the balance from your secondary card to your primary. Once you agree, click on the “Transfer Balance” button again.
After that you will get a confirmation screen to show you the new balances of both of these cards. You will then be able to move through the rest of your cards and transfer them to the primary card as well. Just remember that your primary card can only hold up to a $1000 maximum balance.
Here is some additional information.
- You cannot transfer partial balances. It’s the full balance or nothing.
- Also, just because you have stored your card info on the Disney site you will still need the physical card to make purchases. Do not throw your card away!!! This section of the gift card site is used for monitoring and transferring balances only.
- You can only store up to 5 cards at one time on the site. So if you have more than 5 card balances to be transferred, then you will need to do this process in batches.
- Once the balances are transferred you can delete the zero balanced cards off the site and enter in 4 more (the 5th spot will hold your primary card where your balances are being transferred to).
I know this seems like a lot of work but (in my opinion) I think it’s worth it. I would much rather spend an evening going through this process while zoning out in front of the TV than dealing with a pile of gift cards during my vacation.
What do you think? I would love any feedback!
