This park uses a tiered plan for their Fastpass+ reservations, so it’s very important to know which direction to head in as soon as the park opens. If you have read my previous post on Hollywood Studios Fastpass+ reservation recommendations, you’ll see that you should be choosing between Toy Story Mania and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for your Tier 1 pick. This means that if you are wanting to ride both of these awesome attractions then you need to be at the turnstiles before opening time to get to the ride that you don’t have a FASTPASS+ reservation for, to avoid the crazy lines.
Guests can go through the Hollywood Studios turnstiles about 30 minutes before the official opening time. In order to be at the beginning of the turnstile queue, you should be at the park about 45 minutes before the official opening time. This way you can get through the bag check and the turnstiles. The earlier arrival estimates are for more busier times of the year. Disney has done away with an actual rope drop for this park but sometimes (on very busy times of the year) the park will allow guests to move onto Hollywood Boulevard (but not into the rest of the park) until the official opening time.
Tip! The turnstiles all the way to the left are reserved for guests who have early morning (before opening time) breakfast reservations. But when all the turnstiles open then these breakfast turnstiles turn back into general admission. If the lines are crazy long then keep an eye on these and slip in when they convert over to general admission!
